I bought the black, left-side crossbody strap (30"-55") from The Exceptional Dog Shop, and overall I’m really happy with it — with a few caveats depending on how your dog walks.
This strap works best if your dog already has solid loose leash skills or knows how to heel. I use it for my dog Sergeant, who walks pretty well most of the time, so I can free up my hands to handle my other dog who needs more support. I'm currently pairing it with a standard 6-ft leash I already had, just clipped to the strap. It works well for casual walking when your dog stays close.
That said, if your dog tends to walk out ahead or the leash is too long, it can get in their way — especially with a regular collar. For heeling, I’d recommend using a shorter leash or a tab to keep everything tidy. The strap can be used for running, but I’d only suggest that if your dog will run in a true heel. Otherwise, the leash angle gets awkward and uncomfortable. If you're serious about running with your dog, I'd go with dedicated canicross gear (which we also use and love).
Comfort-wise, the only downside is that it rubs a bit on my neck/shoulder — not a dealbreaker, but worth noting, especially if you're sensory-sensitive like I am. One idea I’d love to see added is a soft, removable strap cover (something like a seatbelt pad but thinner and better fitted) for folks who want to reduce rubbing. That could be a nice upsell option.
I’m a dog trainer and I’d absolutely consider carrying this for clients — but only for dogs who are already pretty reliable on-leash. For dogs who pull or dart around, this setup will make you look like you’re being dragged through town.
I’m 5'5", 160 lbs and the small fits me perfectly with lots of adjustability left. The twist-lock carabiner is my favorite kind — secure and easy to use. I also love that it’s simple and purpose-built. I didn’t want 10 extra attachments or gimmicks. This does what it says: lets you go hands-free, clean and simple.
One wishlist item? I'd definitely pay extra for custom embroidery to add my business name or logo. Could be a great option for other trainers or dog pros too.
All in all, great tool for the right use. Would recommend it — just make sure your dog’s leash manners are already pretty dialed in.
